    SGV Tribune: Disney Opens First Remodeled Store in Montebello

    MONTEBELLO - People lined up all the way across the Shops to get a peek at a revamped Disney Store - the first of its kind in the world unveiled Monday by Walt Disney Co.
    ...A Disney hotel labor union was also there with representatives passing out fliers and balloons but the group of about 15 was asked to leave after mall security guards told them to stop and began popping the balloons they were distributing to children.

    Disney Workers Walk Off the Job 

    ANAHEIM – Hundreds of Disney hotel workers walked off the job at 8 a.m. this morning, protesting the unjust firing of bartender MaryAnn Hegner and Disney’s refusal to respect worker seniority.

    Hundreds of workers from three Disneyland Resort hotels — the Disneyland Hotel, the Grand Californian Hotel and the Paradise Pier Hotel — are participating in the one-day strike.

    OC Register: Disney Workers Declare One-Day Strike

    Disney hotel workers declared a one-day strike after walking off their jobs Friday morning to protest a more-than-two-year contract dispute with the company.

    Disney decided to replace the workers with other Disney employees for the day after the protesting employees stayed out of work for a couple of hours.

    About 11:30 a.m., a Disney official told union leaders that employees would be forbidden from returning to work.

    OC Register: Federal Board Files Labor Complaint Against Disney

    A federal agency is accusing Disney of “unfair labor practices” for changing hotel employees’ workloads, which members say led to injuries, without the union’s consent.

    The National Labor Relations Board has scheduled an August hearing, when Disney must respond to a federal complaint that company officials refused to negotiate with the hotel union about changes to room cleaners’ work.

    San Diego Union Tribune: Labor dispute pains Anaheim

    Determined to nab the popular Comic-Con convention now held in San Diego , Anaheim community leaders are working to counteract negative publicity stemming from a long-simmering union dispute with Disneyland Resort hotels.

    The issue came to a head recently when representatives from the local hotel workers union, dressed as Marvel Comics characters, delivered a letter to Comic-Con International’s office advising convention organizers of the “bitter labor dispute” involving more than 2,000 employees of Disneyland’s three hotels.

    They are among the many large hotels close to the Anaheim Convention Center, which the city has touted as being much more spacious than San Diego’s bayfront facility.
