OUR FIGHT
Walt Disney once famously declared that Disneyland “would encompass the essence of the things that were good and true in American life.” He later added “Disneyland is a work of love. We did not go into Disneyland with the idea of making money.” Walt truly believed that treating his employees fairly and humanely was crucial to his vision of the “happiest place on earth.”
But the corporate executives who run Disney today are spoiling that magic, betraying Walt’s vision and Disney
cast members. 2,100 employees of the Disneyland Hotels, including bellmen, dishwashers, room attendants, and cooks, have been working without a contract since February 2008. Disney executives are proposing drastic changes in our health benefits:
- Disney executives want to dramatically increase our payments to cover our children’s health insurance, effectively taking away health care coverage for many kids whose parents can’t afford it.
- Disney wants to take some of our full-time jobs with benefits and turn them into part-time, casual jobs, with no health insurance at all.
- If Disney executives succeed, they will push many of our children into the already overburdened public healthcare system, and taxpayers will have to pick up the tab.
We are some of the 2,100 Disney Cast members who work at Disneyland hotels. We love Disneyland. We make the magic happen. This website has been created as part of our efforts to keep Walt's vision alive by documenting how Disney is being unfaithful to Walt’s founding ideals.
